Richard J. Tokar
Richard J. “Dick” Tokar, 80, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Washington, died on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, in St. Clair Hospital.
He was born on August 3, 1941 in Washington, a son of the late Michael and Sophie Hustava Tokar.
A graduate of Trinity High School, Dick went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Salem College and was working on a master’s degree from George Williams College of Aurora University.
He attended St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church.
Mr. Tokar was a veteran of the United States Army, having served from October 27, 1966, until his honorable discharge, with the rank of Captain, on October 26, 1968. During his Vietnam Era service, he was stationed in Korea for over a year and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Award.
Dick started working at the YMCA in Washington and Butler as a program director, before progressing to be an executive at the YMCA in Portsmouth, Ohio. He eventually became the CEO at the YMCA in Sydney, Ohio, Lancaster, and Frederick, Maryland, the location he retired from following 32 years of working at the YMCA.
He was a former member of the Washington Jaycees.
Dick played football in high school and college, and loved all sports, including golf.
On September 5, 1970, he married Susanne Lee Ockey, who survives.
Also surviving are cousins, Dolores and Jim Hugus, and Mary Lou Neil, all of Washington; and nephews, Steve Tokar of the state of Indiana, Mark Tokar, of Ohio, and Greg Tokar, of Ohio.
Deceased are a brother, William Tokar; and a nephew, Kevin Tokar.
At the request of the deceased, all services were private.
