Frances Elaine Olshock

Frances Elaine Olshock, 71, of Washington, died Wednesday, July 13, 2022, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born May 3, 1951, a daughter of the late William Keith and Dora Mae Straight Bowling.

Fran attended Rivesville High School before moving to Washington and graduating from Washington High School in 1969. She went on to attend Thiel College and graduated from West Virginia University.

She spent her entire teaching career with McGuffey School District at both Claysville and Joe Walker elementary schools. She spent most of her career teaching third grade. She was an excellent teacher and all the kids hoped for a spot in her class.

Fran was an excellent pianist and musician and she shared her talents with her classes and her church, First United Methodist of Washington.

She was devoted to her family. She enjoyed her retirement by spending time with her son and his children.

In May of 1986, she married John Tibbens Olshock, who died March 25, 2016.

Surviving are a son, Matthew Craig Neelen; three grandchildren, Zoe Frances, Teague Robert, and Coen Matthew Neelen; stepchildren, Elizabeth (Richard) Myros and Jonathan (Juliette) Olshock; stepgrandchildren, Ellieana and Richey Myros; a sister, Joan (Dan) Emmett and their children, Ryan (Marion) Emmett, Kate (Robert) Cox, and Valerie Emmett; great-nieces, Molly, Charlotte, and Cali; an aunt, Freida Michael; her dear friend, Reca Panian; and many cousins.

Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, is a nephew, Andrew Emmett.

The family would like to thank Family Hospice for its compassionate care of Fran.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. hour of service Friday, July 15, in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director, with Pastor Jack Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
