William Francis McDonald Jr.
William Francis McDonald Jr., 73, of Washington, died Thursday, July 14, 2022, in his home. He was born at home, in West Finley Township, October 29, 1948, a son of the late William Francis Sr. and Florence Renner McDonald.
He was a 1968 graduate of West Greene High School. He then went on to serve in the United States Army with the 1st-5th Air Cavalry in Vietnam.
Bill then worked for the State Correctional Institute in Pittsburgh until his retirement in 2000. After his retirement from there, he worked at America’s Auto Auction until he retired again in 2010.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a lifetime subscriber to Bassmasters and Field and Stream.
On October 6, 1979, he married Darlene Mirto, with whom he has shared 43 years of marriage.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Darlene McDonald, are daughter, Theresa (Jon) Messmer of Washington; and son, William Francis III (Laura) McDonald of Mather; three grandchildren, Christian Messmer, Noah Smider, and Piper Rowley; two nephews, Robert V. IV (Brenda) Caldwell of Washington, James Scott McDonald Jr. of Masontown; two nieces, Renetta Shaw of Carmichaels, and Judy McDonald of Waynesburg; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, James Scott McDonald Sr.; sister, Sara Louise “Susie” Caldwell; great-niece, Megan Caldwell; and great-nephew, Thomas Tarr Jr.
Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 18, in Nichol Funeral Home, 1873 East Maiden Street, Washington, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, with Pastor Jason Fryer officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Garden, McMurray.
