Catherine Rose “Kitty” Romanus, 92, of Latrobe, formerly of Deemston Borough entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

She was born September 25, 1929 in Cuddy, to John and Anna Harde Ratti.

On October 7, 1950, she married Alexander Romanus, who died on February 8, 2009. Together they enjoyed 58 years of beautiful marriage.

Both Kitty and Alex came from large ethnic families, each having nine brothers and sisters. This resulted in large family reunions and “get togethers” which she enjoyed very much.

Kitty was very talented. As a child she sang on the radio. At her home in Deemston, where she resided for 50+ years, she assisted her husband Alex in building their home, gardening and raising their son and daughter in a positive and loving atmosphere. She was very influential in their lives and careers of both of them.

Kitty’s talents also included being a fantastic cook and avid cake baker, gifting many cakes to friends and relatives for all occasions, creating crafts and an extraordinary seamstress, making costumes and clothes for all occasions. Other hobbies include: building puzzles, occasionally going to casinos and involvement at the American Legion in Centerville, where for many years she was President of the Auxiliary, visiting friends at the Senior Center in Vestaburg and caring for her pets. She loved animals, especially hummingbirds.

For many years Kitty was a member of the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Monessen. Five years ago she moved in with her daughter, Paulette, and son-in-law, Tom, who became her caregivers. There she became a member of St. Michaels Orthodox Church. Her love and kindness quickly touched the hearts of many forming new friendships.

Three words summarize Kitty “Family, Family, Family”. She loved her family.

Surviving are her daughter, Paulette Sproch (Tom) of Latrobe; a son, James Romanus (Jeanne) of Waynesburg; three grandsons, James II (Rachael) Romanus, Jason Romanus, and Jordan Romanus (Leigha) all of Pittsburgh; a sister, Lucille Scott of Carnegie; cherished sister-in-laws, Dora Dreucci, Eva Dreucci, Tina Greene, Angie Sterdis; brother-in-laws, Nick and Mike Romanakis; several nieces, nephews and friends. A special thanks to Kitty’s long time neighbors, Myrt and Joe Tworzydlo, for all their help and care while she lived in Deemston. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Deceased are several brothers and sisters.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home Ltd., 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022, with Father John Nosal officiating. Interment will be in Taylor Cemetery in West Pike Run Township.
