William Joseph “PeeWee” Griffin Jr., 71, of Washington, valiantly dealt with a host of ailments yet succumbed to his illnesses Monday, July 11, 2022, in the Washington Hospital.

He was born November 14, 1950, in Canonsburg, a son of the late William and Maggie Brown Griffin.

Mr. Griffin was a 1968 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School, where he excelled in track and field. He became a black belt in karate and taught himself how to play guitar. Following his graduation, he joined the Army National Guard.

Following his time in the National Guard, he returned to Canonsburg and went to work for the McGraw-Edison Power Systems. Several years later, he briefly became a top salesman for Kay Jewelers. For a change of pace, he became a limousine driver and sometimes worked as a security guard at the Meadows. Eventually, he found a job with Southpointe Telecom as a communication technician, specializing in security cameras, phones and computer cabling, retiring following 20 years of service.

He was a board member of the Southpointe Chamber of Commerce and belonged to the Washington Jazz Society and the Canonsburg-Houston-Southpointe Rotary.

Mr. Griffin enjoyed fishing, private airplane flying, dancing, superhero movies and all things science fiction. He was most known for his standup comedy at local parties and events. Bill loved hard yet never married.

Left to celebrate his life are his sisters, Terri Lee Griffin (Carl Tate) and Iva Jean Napier, both of Pittsburgh; nephews, Griffin Pickett and Skip Napier (Christina); and great-nephews, Theodore and Tristian Napier.

A Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled for a later time.
