Gloria Joan Imperatore, 89, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 27, 2022, in her home, following an extended illness. She was born March 15, 1933, in Washington, a daughter of the late Joseph and Estelle Pyjanowski Szolek.

Gloria lived most of her life in Canonsburg and had been a member of the former St. Genevie Roman Catholic Church and was a faithful member of St. Oscar Romero Parish, St. Patrick Church. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Guild and worked for many years at the St. Patrick Festival.

Over the years she had been employed at the Washington Hospital kitchen, Duncan Miller Glass Co., the RCA plant in Canonsburg, Tigert Valley and Brockway Glass Co., and prior to her retirement, Superior Valve Corp. She also helped her sisters-in-law at the former Jefferson Room.

Gloria enjoyed bowling and visiting the casino, was known for her cooking and baking, and was a dedicated Steelers fan.

Her beloved husband, Albert P. Imperatore, passed away Monday May 7, 2007.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted sister, Edith Estelle Szolek Huffman of Fayetteville, Ga.; her caretakers, niece Diane Seemiller and her husband, Mark of Rostravor Township; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are her three sisters, Loretta Lee, Elsie Ladzinski and Thema Friend Neidzswiki; and her brother, Robert Szolek.

Friends and family are welcome from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 29, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, July 30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Parish, St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FAMILY IS REQUIRING MASKS BE WORN AT THE FUNERAL HOME AND CHURCH.
