Mary Evelyn Morgan McCarrell

Mary “Evelyn” Morgan McCarrell, 100, entered into the very presence of her beloved Savior at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Schwenksville, PA on May 24, 2022.

Evelyn was born on September 30, 1921, on McDonald Road near Hickory, PA. She was the daughter of the late Leroy Shelly Morgan and Marie Milliron Morgan.

Evelyn was a 1939 graduate of Hickory Vocational High School and attended Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing.

She was the beloved wife of Jay W. McCarrell for 75 years until his passing in 2017. She and Jay were married in her parents’ home on December 30, 1941. They raised their three children on the farm where The Meadows is currently located. In 1965, when that farm was sold, they bought the Red Mailbox Farm in Eighty Four where they raised Black Angus and quality hay which won international awards. She wrote a “book” about her early days growing up in “The Big House on the Bend” and for 50 years she kept a detailed journal of her daily activities.

Evelyn was an avid reader of the Bible and taught Sunday School to elementary age children and Release Time classes in local public schools. In addition, she was known as “Aunt Evelyn” to hundreds of children and adults who took The Mailbox Club, Bible lessons through her tutorage. Her family and friends will miss her intercessory prayer for them and others around the world. Her one desire was that her family, including children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren along with anyone she met, would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 Even in her later years, she was giving out New Testaments and sharing her faith with staff and residents while living at Strabane Trails and Woods.

She was a member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church in Amity where she served as a mission advocate. Evelyn and her husband were also members of The Gideons International whose purpose is to make the Word of God available to everyone.

Surviving are three children: Jerry (Barbara) McCarrell of Quarryville, Judy (Pedro) Ruiz of Schwenksville, and Jay (Barb) McCarrell Jr. of Rancho Mission Viejo, CA. She is survived by 7 grandchildren: Debby (John) Schaefer, Ryan (Kristin) Ruiz, Kyle (Lynn) McCarrell, Carina (Ron) Marchese, Jay (Chelsea) McCarrell III, Julissa (Chris) Peters, and Jeff McCarrell. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are two sisters, Helen Jane Morgan Gray and Ethel Marie Morgan Tuttle.

The family expresses their deep appreciation to Judy and Pedro Ruiz for the loving and compassionate care given Mom over the last 22 months.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 9 at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA.
