William George “Bill” Solominsky, 79, of Washington, died Saturday, June 4, 2022.

He was born November 12, 1942, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Michael and Helen Kozy Solominsky.

A graduate of Carnegie High School, Bill continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, and later a Master of Arts degree in Education from West Virginia University.

He was a 3-year football and wrestling letterman and wrestling captain at Carnegie High School, a member of the University of Pittsburgh wrestling team from 1960-1964, and Amateur Athletic Union Champion in 1963.

He was a Social Studies teacher at Washington High School, where he taught for 35 years. He also coached Varsity Wrestling, first as an assistant for 10 years, from 1969 until 1979, then as the head coach. Bill’s overall record as head coach from 1979 until 1989, was 121-55-0, for a winning percentage of .688. Bill held the distinction of being one of only three coaches in the history of Washington County to win four WPIAL Team Championships. He was a founding member of the “Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic,” which has been around since 1975 and features some of the Nation’s and World’s top amateur wrestlers. In 2005, he was inducted into the Washington-Greene County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame.

An avid golfer, Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting, and many outdoor activities. Mr. Solominsky was a member of the Washington Country Club, where he played with “The Tuesday Group” and “The Over-the-Hill Gang.”

On June 5, 1971, William married Dolores Pikunas, who survives. They enjoyed over 50 years together, traveling through life as one.

Also surviving are two sons, Joe Solominsky, and William (Kristy) Solominsky; a brother, Michael (Marie) Solominsky; three grandchildren, Jonathan, Allison, and Charlotte; and niece and nephews, Mike, Kera, Christopher, and Stephen.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 119 W. Chestnut St., Washington, with Father George Chortos as Celebrant.

Entombment to follow in the Immaculate Conception Mausoleum.
