Dorothy Mae Markle
Dorothy Mae “Dodo” Markle, 80, of Washington, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 19, 2022, in her home. She was born May 12, 1942, in Southview, a daughter of the late William Charles and Anna Marie Malinak Duke.
Dodo lived in Washington since 1974 and was Catholic by faith. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at the former Mayview State Hospital for 35 years.
She was an avid bingo player, bowler and enjoyed going to the Meadows Casino. Dorothy loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On August 18, 1961, she married Ronal L. Markle, who passed away September 15, 2010.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved children, daughter Ronda Markle George (Paul) of Washington, and her three sons, Ronald Markle (Natalie) of Washington, John Markle (Tracy) of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Timothy Markle (Jennifer) of Avella; two sisters, Evelyn Logar of Washington and Patricia “PJ” Rolek (Joseph) of Canonsburg; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are her great-grandson, Oliver George; her brother, John Duke; and two sisters, Elizabeth Ylilt and Barbara Purdy.
Friends and family are welcome from 3 until the 7 p.m. time of services Friday, June 24, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745- 8120. Interment will take place at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 27, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery and, following interment, are invited to a Celebration of Dodo’s Life at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg.
