A. Joanne Andrews, of Washington, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022.

She was born October 1, 1930, in Washington, a daughter of Mayor E.G. “Bud” and Agnes Stover Rowland.

She attended Sixth Ward Elementary School and was a 1948 graduate of Washington High School.

She was a member of the former Trinity Episcopal Church on Beau Street, the National Secretaries (held various offices), Symphony South, the Historical Society, NAACP and treasurer of the Republican Party under T.R. Milnollan, chairman.

She was a secretary for B.F. Drakenfeld Co. for 18 years. She was first employed at the Bebout-McNary Funeral Home, later Stewart F. Barnhill Funeral Home for 22 years, was a sales associate at Bon-Ton and retired as a bridal consultant. Her last job was coordinator of the Veterans Walkway at the B&O Railroad Station.

On June 26, 1970, she married Ray Andrews, who died February 16, 2006.

Surviving are one sister, Kate (William) Palmer of Roseburg, Ore.; along with several nieces and nephews; a stepdaughter-in-law; two stepgranddaughters; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are two brothers, Walter B. Rowland and The Reverend Ewart G. Rowland Jr., a sister, Nancy Joswick; and a nephew, Richard Joswick.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Friday, March 11, in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to a charity of one’s choice.
