Joseph M. Yanek
Joseph M. Yanek, 75, of Burgettstown, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 10, 2022, in the Select Specialty Hospital, Weirton, W.Va..
He was born on September 23, 1946, son of the late Charles and Angeline Patterson Yanek.
After graduating from the Union High School, Burgettstown, in 1965, he enlisted in the United States Army on December 16, 1965, completing basic training at Fort Gordon, Ga. He volunteered for paratroop duty with advanced individual training at Fort Benning Jump School. He proudly served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagles” Paratroopers. He was pictured in the national publication of LOOK Magazine with General William Westmoreland, United States commander and military advisor in South Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with the rank of SP4 (T) on December 15, 1967, a recipient of the Parachute Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals.
Along with his beloved wife, Pattie Yacoviello Yanek, whom he married on August 19, 1978, he was the owner of Cowboys Bar and Restaurant, in Burgettstown, since 1982.
Surviving in addition to his wife; is his son, Bobby Thiel and companion Robin, of Burgettstown; his granddaughter, Jenna Thiel; sister, Janice Yanek Ball; brother, Carl Yanek and wife Sissy; and nephews, Jimmy Yanek and wife Shelly, Eric Yanek, and Carl Yanek, Jr. and wife Kellie.
To honor Joey’s wishes, there will be no public visitation and a service celebrating his life will be held privately.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Lee & Martin Funeral Home, 73 Highland Avenue, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
