Dorothy J. Zieba
Dorothy J. Skowvron Zieba, 93, formerly of Houston, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022.
She was born February 3, 1929 in Canonsburg a daughter of the late John and Mary Skowvron.
Dorothy was very proud of her Polish heritage. She and her husband, Miro, traveled to Poland on several occasions.
She was a dedicated member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Polish National Catholic Church. Being one of the oldest members of the parish, she was instrumental in planning the Thanksgiving dinners, the old fashioned Polish picnics, pierogi projects, and many other church functions. Dorothy had many good ideas of how projects should be handled, sometimes resulting in interesting discussions at parish committee meetings. It was her deep love of the church that was always at the root of her ideas. She was a lifelong member of the Echo Choir, the SAMBS, member of the former Junior Women’s Circle, and the parish committee.
She and Miro, along with many of the deceased members of the parish participated in a performance of “A Day in Krakow”, complete with Polish costumes, music and dancing. Dorothy will be sorely missed by her church family.
Most importantly to her, was that her grandchildren and great grandchildren were always on her mind, with whom she enjoyed spending special family time.
On February 1, 1948, she married Miro J. Zieba, who passed away on March 14, 2012.
Surviving are two sons, Tad (Vicki) Zieba of Houston, and Miro J. (Geneva Maines) Zieba of Raymond, Maine; four granddaughters, Danelle (Steve) Furlong of Ohio, Kyle Zieba, Mirolee (Zhenya Khasanov) Zieba, and Dorene (LuKas) Mills, all of Maine.
Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Clare Furlong, Aleksandr and Nikolai Khasanov, and Aryana and Logan Mills; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by seven brothers: Frank, Peter, Walter, Stanley, Theodore, Bernard and John, Jr. Skowvron; and a sister, Mary Chuba; and a daughter-in-law, Peggy Zieba.
