Marjorie Inghram Woodruff, 82, passed into eternal life Thursday, November 10, 2022, in Charleston, S.C. Her friends and family miss her dearly, but are comforted by the knowledge that she is at peace after fighting a brave battle with dementia.
Born to Robert and Delilah Inghram September 30, 1940, she was raised in a small town in Western Pennsylvania. Her childhood was active, playing in her high school band, lifeguarding at the local pool, enjoying double dates at the local drive-in theater, and taking long hikes in the woods.
Marjorie was known throughout her life for her boundless energy, high spirits, readiness to help, love of laughter, great humanity, sparkling eyes, and most of all, huge smile. She constantly sought to expand her horizons through travel, education, and even Outward Bound wilderness experiences. She was, at heart, an adventurer.
Marjorie’s career was defined by her life-long quest for knowledge. After graduating from Waynesburg High, she received a BA in English from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. She worked as a teacher, writer, and counselor.
Her home life was defined by her many loving relationships as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her much-beloved husband, Gary; and her twin sister, Marilyn Moore.
She is survived by her children, Steve and Jo Ann Throckmorton; her five grandchildren, Brittany, Amy, Sara, Eric, and Esmee; and her four great-grandchildren, Liam, Aniston, Lennon, and Sophie Reese. She was deeply committed to her family and always encouraged them in their own adventures.
A private memorial for Marjorie will be held at a later date.
Should you wish to honor her memory, please send any donations to Lutheran Homes of South Carolina Foundation at https://www.lutheranhomesscfoundation.org or to Hospice of Charleston at https://hospiceofcharleston.com – both of which provided great comfort and care to Marjorie in her final years.
