George William McMullen
We regret to announce the unexpected passing of George William McMullen of Washington, on Thursday, October 6, 2022.
George dedicated his life to the fire service, volunteering with South Strabane, working for McDonald and the City of Washington. George retired from the City of Washington Fire Department as a Captain, after 26 years with the city.
He also served in the U.S. Army National Guard and the Air National Guard (1989-2002) and spent many years as a paramedic with Ambulance and Chair and at the Meadows Racetrack. He made many lifelong friends during each chapter of his career, and never seemed to meet a stranger during his 51 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, loudly and aggressively cheering on Pittsburgh sports teams, cooking too much food, fishing, traveling, drinking beer and spending time in his swimming pool. He was also a regular at the Keystone Club, the Independent Club and American Legion Post 175.
George is survived by his wife, Billie Jo; and his five children: Tyler (Jaydyn), Georgie (Stacie), Drew (Victoria) and Travis; stepson, Jordan Turk (Annie); as well as three grandchildren, Azaria, Hezekiah and Ezra Turk.
George is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Karen (David) Graham, Peggy (Dennis) Murray, and Noel “Mac” (Karen) McMullen. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and too many friends to count.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia “Pat” McMullen; father, Kenneth “Big Mac” McMullen; brother, Kenneth “Lenny” McMullen; and sister, Luce McMullen.
George went above and beyond to help anyone in need and will be remembered for his larger-than-life presence and even bigger heart.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in George’s memory.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2022, with the Firemen Service at 6 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022. Interment to follow.
