Nancy Lee Petrel, 90 of Colliers, W.Va., died peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at her daughter’s home in Pittsburgh.
Nancy was born on August 23, 1932, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, a daughter of the late John David “Floyd” and Nancy Susan Headley Hunter.
In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Floyd Dale Petrel, who passed away on August 4, 2013.
Nancy was a 1950 graduate of Follansbee High School, then earned her bachelor’s degree in education from West Liberty State College in 1954, and received her master’s degree in education from West Virginia University.
For 39 years Nancy, taught at Colliers Primary School.
Nancy was a member of Open-Door Baptist Church and the Brooke County Retired Teachers Association. She also enjoyed a good game of cards.
Nancy is survived by two loving children, David (Jill) Petrel, of Columbus, Ohio and Lisa (David) Wert, of Pittsburgh; one brother, Floyd (Connie) Hunter, of Follansbee, W.Va.; one sister, Floryne (Denny) Williams, of Wellsburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren: Lindsey (Alex) Scott, Joshua (April) Petrel, Abby, Ava, and Alek Wert; along with four adorable great-grandchildren, Liam and Jacob, Jane and Quinn, and one great-grandchild on the way; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for Nancy will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 14th, and again from 10 until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 15th, at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main Street, Follansbee, W.Va., with Reverend Larry Garrison officiating.
Interment will follow in St. John Haven of Rest Cemetery, Colliers, W.Va.
