Frederick L. “Fred” Engle, 85, of Washington, passed away peacefully, in his home, Sunday, October 9, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born November 10, 1936, in Washington, a son of the late Robert G. and Mary Helen Davis Engle.

Mr. Engle was a 1954 graduate of Trinity High School. He served in the United States Naval Reserves for eight years before being honorably discharged.

Mr. Engle was employed by Jessop Steel as a maintenance supervisor for 27 years from where he retired.

He was a member of the Fairhill Manor Christian Church, Washington Lodge No. 164 Free & Accepted Masons, Syria Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S. of Pittsburgh, American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post #175, National Rifle Association and the Washington Community Choir.

He enjoyed playing poker with his buddies, gardening, golfing and he never missed watching a Pittsburgh Steelers game. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially time spent with his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

On November 18, 1956, he married Eva Lou Standiford, who survives. The couple had been married for 65 years.

Also surviving are two sons, Stephen (Helene) Engle of Colorado and Matthew (Beth) Engle of Washington; two daughters, Joyce (Carl) Brandtonies of Washington and Julie (Eric) Meier of Washington; two sisters, Lois Shaw of Washington and Betty Jean Andrew of Georgia; and five grandchildren, Megan Engle, Robert Engle, Elysa (Taylor) Matthews, Cameron Meier and Colby Meier. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Engle was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Robert and Donald Engle; and three sisters, Mary Louise Henderson, Helen Marie McCullough and Marjorie Dale Polen.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 16, in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, owner/supervisor, Holly Renay Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, Park N. Crosier, director. Washington Lodge No. 164 F. & A.M. will render a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 17, in the Fairhill Manor Christian Church, 351 Montgomery Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, with Pastor Gena Sheller officiating. Those attending the funeral service should go directly to the church on Monday. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery, where full military rites will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars #191 Honor Guard and the United States Navy.
