Henry Gzikowski

Henry Gzikowski, 80, of Avella, passed away early Thursday morning, October 20, 2022, in his home surrounded by family.

He was born on September 24, 1942, at home in Avella, a son of the late Charles David & Martha Bell Randolph Gzikowski.

Henry attended Avella High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962, where he earned his G.E.D. and held the rank of Sergeant First Class. Henry served during Vietnam and was stationed all over the world. After 20 years he retired and received his honorable discharge in 1982.

After leaving the military Henry worked as a custodian for Avella Area School District for 20 years.

Henry was a member of the Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643 and its Honor Guard; where he was the bugler. He was also a member of the McDonald VFW.

He enjoyed watching Westerns and Military movies, playing Solitaire and spending time with his family.

On December 30, 1967, in Avella Presbyterian Church, he married, Shirley Marie Hayes, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 54 years are his three children, Tammy Ritchea of Bethany, W.Va., Kirstie Winters of Langeloth and Jonathan Gzikowski (Joanie Robison) of Burgettstown; five grandchildren, Austin Ritchea, Cheyenne (Joey) Hood, Shania and Jessica Winters and Dylan Gzikowski; one great-grandson, Mason Winters; a sister, Margaret McDaniel and husband Bill of Barnesville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents are; a sister, Katie Dupain; three brothers, Charles “Junior” Gzikowski Raymond Gzikowski and Charles Gzikowski II.

Friends and family will be received from 10 a.m. until Noon, the time of the Blessing Service, on Wednesday, October 26, in the Jerome A. Stefkovich Funeral Home Inc., 18 Campbell Street, Avella, PA 15312, with Rev. Harry Bielewicz officiating.

A military walk-thru will be conducted by the Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643 at 11:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Full military rites will be accorded graveside by Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643 of Avella.
