Alfred J. Tiano, 100 of Washington passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2022.

He was born August 14, 1922 in Washington a son of the late John B. and Saveria Candalese Tiano.

Mr. Tiano was a graduate of Trinity High School, West Liberty Teachers College and earned his Masters of Education Degree from West Virginia University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II where he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon, the Meritorious Unit Award and the Victory Medal before being honorably discharged.

Mr. Tiano was employed at Trinity High School as a teacher for several years and was also an entrepreneur who owned and operated his own business alongside his brother, Justin.

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish where he served as an usher for over fifty years. Mr. Tiano was also a member of the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175, the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Washington-Greene County Chapter and the West Liberty Sports Hall of Fame. He enjoyed and always fondly remembered his time playing football in high school and college. Mr. Tiano also enjoyed golfing and watching all sports. He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.

On August 24, 1958 he married Elena Tallerico who survives. Also surviving is a son, James A. (Wendy) Tiano of South Strabane Twp.; three daughters, Mary Ellen (Fiance Bob Legler) Tiano of Washington, Theresa Ann (Kevin) Barrett of Wexford and Linda Susan (Joseph) Schaaf of Madison, Alabama; a brother, Justin (Marie) Tiano of Washington; and six grandchildren, Jonathan Barrett, Megan (David) Disciascio, Alexandra (Nick) Biehl, Angelina Tiano, Nathan Schaaf and Sarah Schaaf. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Tiano was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Morosco, Tony Tiano and Albert Tiano and by four sisters, Rose Stewart, Matilda Comito, Frances Steinberg and Theresa Tiano.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 4, in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor, Holly Renay Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Park N. Crosier, Director. A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11: a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, 119 W. Chestnut St. Washington with the Rev. John Lynam as celebrant. Entombment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray. Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 and the United States Army.
