Robert Bilby

Robert “Bob” Bilby, 91, of Washington, died Monday, August 29, 2022, following a brief illness. He was born February 20, 1931, in Washington, a son of the late William and Mary Bilby.

He is the brother of a younger sister, Hilda Mae (Chuck) Dicks of Tennessee, and the late Donald L. (Jeannie, surviving) Bilby of Washington.

On June 9, 1951, he married the love of his life, the late Ruth Evelyn Stollar. Bob and Ruth are survived by their three children, James R. (Anne) Bilby of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Robert M. (the late Becky) Bilby Jr. of Baltimore, Md., and Susan L. (Hoss) Godwin of Washington. Bob was blessed with eight grandchildren, Deanna (Denny) Clark of Washington, Sarah (Josh) Grimley of Myrtle Beach, Ashley Bilby of Charleston, S.C., Melissa (Steve) Freeman of Hampstead, Md., Jonathan Bilby of Baltimore, and Kristen Royer, Ashley Skogsberg (CJ), Greg Royer of New York and stepgranddaughter, Angel of Washington; nine great-grandchildren, Alexis, Joshua, Kirsten, Logan, Colten, Cheyenne, Aiden, Brooke, Mollie; and several nieces and nephews. Later in his life, he married Norma J. Wise, who is also deceased.

Mr. Bilby attended Washington High School. He was employed as a master machinist at Hazel-Atlas No.1, RCA, SKC Machine Shop and other machine shops throughout his professional career.

He was a member of the Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175, Washington, and the Eagles Club, Washington. Mr. Bilby was a member of the Broad Street Baptist Church, Washington.

Bob was a skilled hunter and fisherman and member of the Keystone Hunting Camp located in Costello/Potter County, for many years. The mountains and relationships he formed provided him with much excitement, many life-long friendships and peace.

Bob loved hockey and was a big fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a skilled Little League manager and coach and once served in hosting a Little League World Series Team from Mexico.

Mr. Bilby volunteered to deliver meals to individuals via the Washington Meals on Wheels Program and was involved in assisting disabled children at various points in his life via workshop programs.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to AHN Healthcare@Home Hospice and Canonsburg Hospital for their compassionate and loving care he was provided.

A private memorial service and interment will be held with family at Washington Cemetery in the future (date yet to be determined).
