Irene K. Carl, 92, of Vestaburg, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2022 in Washington Hospital.

She was born November 15, 1929 in Vestaburg, a daughter of the late Harry and Elizabeth McCardle Justus, and raised by her late grandparents Bernard and Katie McCardle.

Irene was a 1949 graduate of East Beth High School.

Mrs. Carl was previously employed as a clerk at Pittsburgh Mercantile, RCA in Meadowlands, and finally in the accounts receivable department of Kmart in Washington, for many years.

She was a life-long member and Elder of the Vestaburg Presbyterian Church, and then a member of the Millsboro Presbyterian Church until its closing.

Irene was a member of the Beth Center Senior Citizens, PTA and Vestaburg Ladies Aid. She enjoyed time with her family, the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and the beach.

On April 1, 1949 she married John C. Carl Sr. who died in 2001.

Surviving are two children, Pam Carl of Vestaburg, and John C. Carl Jr. (Diane) of Coal Center; three grandchildren, Scott Carl (Amy), April Wright (Harry), and Josh Baringer (Deanna); three great- grandchildren, Samantha Carl, Ian and Eli Wright. Irene was the last of her immediate family.

Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a granddaughter, Autumn Rose Wingrove; two sisters, Nellie Porter Kostelnik and Elsie Arnone; six brothers, Jim, Frank, Andrew, Regis, Ed and Bill McCardle; several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, Ltd., 2830 Main St., Beallsville, PA where Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 9 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Cathy Leonard Newport officiating. Interment will follow in Beallsville Cemetery.
