Shirley W. Briggs
Shirley W. Briggs, 86, of Hickory passed away peacefully, Monday, September 5, 2022, in St. Clair Hospital.
She was born on August 25, 1936, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Eugene and Margaret Freese Wolf.
Shirley was proud to have worked in the banking business for over twenty years, first with Mellon Bank and then for most of her career, with Washington Financial. She took her customers business very seriously and was often sought out for advice.
She was a loyal and dedicated member of the Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian church in Hickory and was a member of the church choir for over 50 years. She and her husband, Kay, taught Sunday school and vacation bible school when their children were young.
In her younger years, she enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and square dancing. She especially loved music and being with people her entire life.
On July 20, 1957, she married Kay Lee Briggs who died on July 16, 2008.
Surviving are a son, Eugene Briggs and his wife Patty of Hickory; a daughter Tammy Lander and her husband Ben of Robinson; two grandchildren, Benjamin Lander II and Lauren Lander; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased in addition to her parents are a son, Eric Lee Briggs; and a sister, Esther Wallace.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342 and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, in the Hickory U.E.P. Church. 210 Main St., Hickory, PA 15340, where services will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Mt. Prospect Cemetery.
