Melanie A. Katusa
Melanie A. Katusa, 66, of Lorton, Va., formerly of Carmichaels, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 7, 2022, in her home. She was born October 8, 1955, in Fort Bragg, N.C., a daughter of the late John H. and Dorothy D. Krucker Katusa.
Melanie was a 1974 graduate of Carmichaels Area High School and a former member of the St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church in Carmichaels.
She earned her masters degree in education from California State College and moved to Virginia, where she worked in the service and hospitality industry.
Melanie was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers football fan and her passions were her family and pets.
Surviving are her longtime companion, Roy Waldschmidt; three sisters, Debbie Batis (Dave) of Carmichaels, Karen Romah (Phil) of Garards Fort, and Joetta Andrews of Carmichaels; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are two sisters, Johnna Cumpston and Dorothy “Cootsy” Katusa.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, September 23, in St. Matthias Parish at St. Hugh, 408 Route 88, Carmichaels, with the Rev. J. Francis Frazer as celebrant.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
