Catherine A. Gennocro, 94, of Washington, formerly of Houston, passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 20, 2022, in Strabane Woods.

She was born August 4, 1928, in Meyersdale, a daughter of Samuel and Carmella Russo Arnone.

Mrs. Gennocro lived most of her life in Houston after graduating, as an Honor student, from Meyersdale High School, May 27, 1946. Catherine went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and a double major in Mathematics and English at State Teachers College, Indiana Pennsylvania, on March 29, 1950. She graduated with a master’s degree in Secondary Education with Guidance Certification from the University of Pittsburgh on June 12, 1957.

She was a faithful member of St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church. Catherine had been a much loved and devoted mathematics teacher and guidance counselor in the Chartiers-Houston School District for 30 years. She had been a member of the Christian Mothers and Guild, various bowling leagues and was an avid golfer at the Washington Country Club and Chippawa Golf Course. Catherine also loved to travel.

On August 23, 1952, she married William Gennocro, who passed away August 4, 2006, after 53 years of marriage. Catherine was the last of her immediate family, being survived by several devoted Roncace nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Victoria Arnone, along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deceased in addition to her husband and parents, is her sister, Beatrice (Enrico) F. Roncace; and brothers, Anthony, Phillip (Phyllis) and Joseph Arnone.

At Mrs. Gennoccro’s request, there will be no public visitation. Friends and family are welcome to a Catholic Blessing Service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner / supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120.

Private interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Chartiers Houston Community Library.
