Emma Jean Johnston
Emma Jean Johnston, 87, of Washington, died Monday, September 19, 2022, in Premier Washington Health Center.
She was born December 18, 1934, in Washington, a daughter of Marie Piper White. Emma Jean was raised by her grandparents Harry and Nell Piper.
Mrs. Johnston was a graduate of Trinity High School, and worked at the former RCA, in Meadow Lands.
She loved to read, and had an extensive library.
Surviving are three daughters, Melinda Keirs Strawn of Claysville, Christy Keirs Meeks of Washington, and Jamie Keirs Rush of Elizabeth; six grandchildren, Dameon Meeks, Ian Strawn, James Meeks, John W. Swierczek, Elizabeth Neely and Melissa Kimmey; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin J. Keirs; her second husband, W. Darrel Johnston; and a brother, James McClelland.
Jean and Darrel will be privately entombed together in the Washington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Citizens Library, 55 S. College Street, Washington. Arrangements are entrusted to the Hummell & Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director.
