Jack Allen Holbert
Jack Allen “Poppy Jack” Holbert, 85, of Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, at his residence in Mt. Morris.
He was born on April 11, 1937, in Mt. Morris, a son of the late Cecil Holbert and Evelyn Snyder Holbert.
Jack was a United States Navy Veteran.
Jack was the owner / operator, and president of Mt. Morris Tire. He was the owner of HighPoint Raceway, in Mt. Morris. His best friend Ralph Duke Franks has worked for him for 44 years and they would go at least three times a week to get ice cream in Waynesburg. One of his favorite things to do was prep the racetrack. In Jack’s younger years, he was an avid racer.
Jack and Carol loved spending time together and they loved to travel to Tennessee and Florida.
Jack is survived by his wife of 15 years, Carol Merrill Holbert, of Mt. Morris; his stepson, Richard Michael Bower and his wife, Josie, of Fairmont; his stepdaughters, Rose Marie Bower and her wife, Emily Sanders, of Fairmont, W.Va. and Cheryl Bower Killough of Fairmont, W.Va.; his sons, David Holbert and his wife, Charlene, of Mt. Morris and Steven Holbert of Mt. Morris; his sister, Mary Hughes; his grandchildren, Rikki Bower, Vanesa Bower, Chris Kellough and his wife, Jamie; his great-grandchildren, Savannah Bower, Morgan Warren, Rowan Killough, Riley Killough and Jules Bower; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Holbert; his longtime best friend, Dave Coombs, who started the HighPoint Raceway in Mt. Morris.
Family and friends are welcome to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, W.Va. from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, where a vigil will take place at 7 p.m.
There will be visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the Catholic funeral rites at 11 a.m., on Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the funeral home, with Father Romeo Bacalso S.V.D., as the celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, where Military Honors will be accorded by the Marion County Veterans Council Military Honor Guard.
