Shirley Mae Sprowls Chambers
Shirley Mae Sprowls Chambers, 90, of Claysville, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
She was born September 19, 1932, in East Buffalo Township, one of 10 children of the late Glen and Sylvia Mounts Sprowls.
A 1950 graduate of Trinity High School, she also earned a degree from Penn Commercial Business & Technical School.
Shirley worked as an administrative professional for the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Human Services.
She was a member of the Martha Washington Garden Club and the Iris and Daylily Society. An avid gardener, Shirley especially loved her tall bearded irises and daylilies.
Shirley married Harold “Pete” Chambers, who is now deceased.
Surviving are four children, Susan Chambers Elliott, of Parkersburg, W.Va.; Richard “Rick” Chambers, of Claysville and Ireland; Harold “Chip” (Tessa) Chambers, of Bruceton Mills, W.Va. and Jeffrey (Maggie) Chambers, of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; grandchildren: Heleen Chambers and her mother, Ann Verspreet, both of Belgium, Heather Elliott (Marc) Fowler, of Parkersburg, W.Va., Hilary Elliott, of Parkersburg, W.Va., Shannon (Nikki Gray) Elliott, of Knoxville, Tenn., Paul (Daan) Chambers, of Ireland, Nick Chambers, of Morgantown, W.Va., Mary Alice Chambers (Nathan) Bartolo, of Morgantown, W.Va. and Nathan and Clara Yackel, of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandchildren: Fiona, of Ireland, Samuel Bartolo, of Morgantown, W.Va. and Henry and Oliver Yackel, of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, Wayne “Herk” (Kathleen) Sprowls, of Washington; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents, are brothers, Glen R., William, Donald “Dude” and Gaylord “Cub”; sisters, Margurite Boyle, Laura McDowell, Edythe Schrader and Joann Martin; daughter-in-law, Sonja Chambers; and a son-in-law, Jeff Elliott.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Hawthorne Woods and the staff at Gateway Hospice, for their excellent and compassionate care of our mother.
