George E. Palyas, 79, of Scenery Hill, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023, in his home, after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Palyas was a 1961 graduate of Ellsworth High School.

He was a proud U.S Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War serving in Air Traffic Control and Warning.

After returning home, George was employed as a painter for Joe Falvo, as well as a manager in logistics at Washington Steel.

He adored his grandchildren and family. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling; George even achieved a hole-in-one on the 8th hole at Chippewa Golf Course. Feeding birds and cats were hobbies he enjoyed as well.

On September 19, 1964, he married Joan B. Palyas, who passed away June 29, 2014.

Surviving are two children, Adam Palyas (Robin) of Venetia, and Kelley Shaw (Kevin) of Winter Springs, Fla.; five grandchildren Morgan, Madison, Chandler, Jackson, Reagan; three great-grandchildren, Dawson, Colson and Hudson; four siblings, Matthew Palyas (Elizabeth) of Bentleyville, John Palyas (Peggy) of Lone Pine, Susan Oshetsky (Steve) of Carmichaels, and Tom Palyas (Lorna) of Scenery Hill.

Deceased, in addition to his wife, are two siblings, Dorothy Jean Palyas, and Paul Palyas; two nephews, Matthew Palyas III, and Michael Oshetsky.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 18, in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 19.

Interment will follow in Wooddruff Memorial Park, Canonsburg.
