Melisse Hays Osterman
Melisse H. Osterman, 70, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 18, 2023, in her home with her loving husband by her side.
Born June 1, 1953 in Canonsburg, she was the beloved wife of 46 years of Robert A. Osterman; loving mother of Amelia Hays Osterman, Kaitlin Hays Osterman, and Drew O’Hara Osterman; grandmother to adored puppy, Albie; and sister to Molly Hays (Roger) Jette, Melinda Hays (Christopher) Evans and Timothy B. (Deborah) Hays.
She was the daughter of the late Albert Vincent and Patricia Beedle Hays.
Raised in Industry, and later Beaver, Missy graduated from Beaver Area High School in 1971. She attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. After graduation, Missy joined the family business, Metsch Refractories Inc., located in Chester, W.Va., serving in a number of roles over her 47-year career as co-owner and heart of the family business.
Missy was devoted to numerous civic causes in her community, including being a founding member and President of the Friends of the Park, a non-profit organization formed to salvage and restore the Canonsburg Community Park.
Missy represents the third generation to live in her beloved family home, called Stepping Stones. Throughout her childhood, she spent her summers at town park pool and later in life enjoyed gardening and house restoration projects alongside her husband. She especially enjoyed hosting parties with her family and friends.
Above all, Missy was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend. She met the love of her life when she was eighteen years old, and together they built a beautiful family and created memories that will be cherished. As a mother, she was incredibly strong, yet tender. She inspired her children every day and loved them with all of her heart. She had three siblings who loved her beyond words and many cherished friends that supported her and brought her such joy. Missy had the great fortune of a full, love-filled life and is already dearly missed.
