David John Barr, 69, of Brooksville, Fla., passed away Saturday, August 19, 2023.

He was a son of the late John and Gertrude Barr, formally of Hickory. David was a 1972 graduate of Fort Cherry High School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and retired as a chief petty officer after 20 years’ service. He then became a tugboat captain along the Gulf of Mexico coastline. He remained a loyal Pittsburgh Steeler Fan through the years.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Rosa, who he met and married in the Philippines. He was a proud father of four children, Mary (Brent) Wilson, Matthew (Trina) Barr, David (Jocelyn) Barr Jr., and Michelle (Clarence) Barr White, all living in Florida. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Cathy Sprowls and Janis Barr of St. Petersburg, Fla., Jim (Janine) Barr of Wintersville, Ohio, Cheryl (Doug) Killen of Washington, and Dan (Lori) Barr of Upper St. Clair; and numerous nieces and nephew.

Committal service and inurnment will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
