It is with profound sadness that the family of Irene Louise McCracken Hodgson, 85, announce her passing. She was called to her Heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and reunite with all her loved ones, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
Irene came from humble beginnings, being born in the small community of Jacktown, located in Wind Ridge, Greene County. She was a daughter of the late Harriet Riggle McCracken Armstrong and was raised by her mother and stepfather, John Armstrong.
Irene was head majorette and graduated from West Greene High School in 1956.
She met and married the love of her life, the late Robert E. Hodgson, Sr., March 20, 1958.
Irene worked for Metzner Realty and Snowy White Enterprises for over 40 years and counted David Metzner and James Gregorakis as not only employers but as dear friends.
She was a longtime member of Friendship Community Church, and always said she was blessed by her church family as well as her regular and extended family. Irene was a dear and loving friend to all she met through her life, and had a smile that could light up a room.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Jr. (Linda) and John W.; two grandchildren, Joshua (Veronica) and Victoria; four wonderful great- grandchildren, Riley, Alana, Caitlin and Conor; along with sisters-in-law, Barbara Delisio, Linda Armstrong and Jeannie Armstrong; extended family, Roger and Bonnie Russell, and Cheryl Salvati; and many wonderful nieces and nephews for which she was always grateful; and good friends and neighbors, David and Kathy Plants and family.
A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
