Violet Ann Szwed Bruno
Violet A. “Babe” Bruno, 88, of Washington, died Saturday, January 7, 2023, in the home of her caregivers, Gary and Tracy McDonald of Waynesburg.
She was born December 2, 1934, in Washington, one of four daughters, to the late Michael and Josephine Mahilak Szwed.
A graduate of Washington High School, Mrs. Bruno retired from National City Bank. She later worked part time for Community Care.
She was a lifelong member of St. Hilary Catholic Church, and later became a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Affectionately known to many as Grammy Vi, she enjoyed cooking, baking, and crafting. She loved shopping at Gabriel Brothers and was known as the “Queen of Gabes.”
On June 25, 1955, she married the love of her life, Arthur “Peanuts” Bruno, Jr., who died November 30, 2013. They were married 58 wonderful years and enjoyed going on various trips with family and friends.
Violet is survived by her two children, Lisa Bruno Waters of Washington, and Jon Todd (Dana) Bruno of Washington; four grandchildren, Zachary Waters, Whitney Waters, Anthony (Vivian) Bruno, and Nico Bruno; a sister, Loretta Hassan of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helene O’Leary and Virginia Szwed Miller; son-in-law, Matthew James Waters; and nephew, Jeffery O’Leary.
All services and burial in Washington Cemetery will be private.
Arrangements have been entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
