Robert Louis Maltony, Sr.

Robert Louis Maltony Sr., 92, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023, peacefully at home with his loving family at his side.

Bob was born March 7, 1930, in Burgettstown, a son of the late Louis and Erma Maltony. He was a graduate of Burgettstown Union High School.

He was a man of many ambitions and held a variety of jobs including Starvagg’s, Petrucci’s Market, WM Sanitation, Jake Schneider Bus Co., and Our Lady of Lourdes as a custodian. He retired from J&L Steel in 1985.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was awarded several medals for his service.

Bob was a member of St. Isidore the Farmer Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, a 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3440, and American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In 1957, he met the love of his life, Carol Slater Maltony, who survives. The two married in 1958 and would have been celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary this year.

Bob was a humble and kind man with a warm smile and always a friendly greeting to everyone. Being an avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching all Pittsburgh sports but found the most pleasure in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was extremely proud of his Italian heritage and could be found leading one of his favorite songs “That’s Amore” with his brothers and family at various celebrations.

In addition to his wife Carol, he is survived by four sons, Robert Jr. (Judy), Jeffrey (Peggy), Michael (Lesli) and Bryan (Alison); 11 grandchildren: Alycia Maltony, Colleen (Zach) Smith, Brea (Nick) Pinardo, Tyler (Mackenzie) Maltony, Mikala (Jordan) West, Isabella (Tyler) Maltony, Anthony Maltony, Jessica Rodacay, Adanna Maltony, Amir Maltony and Aniah Maltony; and four great-grandchildren, Rory Smith, Asher Pinardo, Scarlett Hellerman, Lucia Maltony and soon to be baby, Tate West.

Also surviving are brothers, Ron, Rich (Lois) and Tom; sister, Carol (Larry) Keating; sister-in-law, Becky Slater; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents are, brother, Ed; and sister, Joanne Spiotta.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, PA 15021. 724-947-2049.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes – St. Isadore the Farmer Parish, 1109 S. Main Street, Burgettstown, PA 15021.

Interment to follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Robert’s name to the Burgettstown Senior Center, 200 Senior Way, Burgettstown, PA 15021.
