Jean McGary
Jean McGary, 94, of Washington, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023, in her home.
She was born December 12, 1928, in Washington, a daughter of the late James A. and Rose Johnson Bennett.
Jean attended Trinity area schools and was a 50-year employee of Richey’s Market.
Jean enjoyed gardening, mowing the lawn, feeding the birds and playing poker. She was an avid Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan, but her real love was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On April 24, 1954, she married Richard L. McGary, who died May 1, 2013.
Also surviving are two daughters, Willetta “Willie” (Edward) McDowell and Beverly Jane “Janie” (Jack) Lenco, both of Washington; a sister, Rose Ann Burgess of Washington; four grandchildren, Shane (Hope) McDowell, Alison (Andy) Migyanko, Jackie (A.J.) Kerr and Adrienne (Justin) Lindsay; nine great-grandchildren, Erin, Molly and Troy “T.J.” McDowell, Landry and Lowrie Migyanko, Lawson and Merrit Kerr, and Dawson and Karalyna Lindsay; several nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Susan Lawrence; and her good friend and caregiver, Arlene Kearns.
Deceased are a daughter, Nancy McGary, and a son, Robert McGary, who both died in infancy; and five sisters, Roberta Beatty, Jane Phillips, Grace Baker, Clara Rine and Mary Jo Yohn.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 30, and from 10 a.m. to noon, the hour of service, Tuesday, January 31, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Rob Berk officiating. Interment will follow in Buckingham Cemetery, Deemston.
