Joyce H. Thornburg
Joyce H. Thornburg, 69, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, surrounded by her family.
She was born March 29, 1954, in Washington, a daughter of the late Fred and Josephine Ross Henderson.
Joyce was a 1972 graduate of Trinity High School and was employed for over 20 years as an Administrative Assistance for Washington County, in the Commissioners’ Office, from where she recently retired. She was also a former board member of the Olivia Scott Foundation.
Joyce enjoyed sky diving and driving with her late husband in their 1970 Triumph TR6. She also enjoyed working and making people laugh. Most of all Joyce enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
On October 19, 1974, she married David W. “Pigowl” Thornburg, who passed away March 7, 2015.
Surviving is a son, Codi (Tori Ketter) Thornburg of Washington; two daughters, Kelly (David) Carmichael of Bethel Park and Kory Thornburg of Washington; a brother, Fred (Margaret) Henderson of Florida; three grandchildren, Bailey (Joramae Otarra) Bird, Eiley Thornburg, and Wyatt Carmichael; special nieces and nephews, Fred Henderson, Chris Henderson, Heather Kitchel, Leslie Alexas, Darcy McCrerey, Todd, Dia, Kayla and Ian Thornburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Peggy Thornburg. Also surviving is her beloved dog, “Lucy.”
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, is a brother-in-law, Dennie Thornburg.
All funeral arrangements are private and are under the direction of the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at E. Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner / Supervisor, S. Timothy Warco II, Director, Holly Renay Warco, Director, Park N. Crosier, Director.
A celebration of life picnic will be held at a later date.
