Bessie Louise McElhaney
Bessie Louise McElhaney, 80, of Washington, died Tuesday, July 18, 2023, in her home.
She was born October 17, 1942, in Washington, a daughter of the late Lester and Maude Cole McVehil, and stepmom Mae McVehil.
A graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Country Meadows for over 10 years.
She attended the Central Assembly of God Church.
Bessie loved to cook and was famous for her sweet dough pizza. She enjoyed watching “America’s Got Talent” and doing crossword and word search puzzles. She loved horses, and spending time with friends and family.
On April 11, 1964, Bessie married Charles Oliver McElhaney, who survives. They enjoyed over 58 years of marriage.
Also surviving are her daughter, Kelly Newman; grandchildren, Justin, Shantel, Zachary, Shane, Ocean, Stormy and Cory; and eight great-grandchildren.
Bessie was preceded in death by her son, Charles Oliver McElhaney, Jr.; her daughter, Evelyn Pitzer; and her son-in-law, William Newman, Jr.
Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the time of a service, Monday, July 24, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
Interment will be private.
