John E. Chopp
John E. “Junie” Chopp, 88, of Lawrence “Hill Station”, passed away peacefully, in his home, with family by his side, Sunday, March 5, 2023. He was born January 24, 1935 in Hill Station, a son of the late John Chopp and Mary Chopp Carrara.
On December 16, 1961, John married the late Maggie Chopp, with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage.
Surviving are son, John A. Chopp, of Lawrence; daughter, Dana (Daniel) Curley, of Whitehall; sister, Bernadine Giammarco, of Lawrence; and several nieces and nephews.
John served proudly with the U.S. Navy, and worked as a machinist for 39 years, at McGraw Edison. After retiring, he worked at Easterseals, Brookwood Center.
John found great enjoyment in the simple things in life: a cold beer after mowing the yard, watering the garden, visiting with neighbors, and family gathering at a holiday table.
John was an avid Steelers fan; for him there was no better day spent than during Steeler season at the Muse Italian Club, enjoying a bowl oftripe and a Peroni.
John will always be remembered as being good natured, having an infectious smile and the ability to make those around him laugh.
John was a member of SNPJ Post 245 for 70 years and a member of the Hills Hendersonville Civic Association.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie Chopp; and brother, Albert Carrara.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 9, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 10, in the Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Benedict the Abbot, in McMurray. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville.
