Mary Evelyn Samples, 101, of Marietta, Ga., passed away Monday, March 13, 2023. She was born January 6, 1922, in Kingwood, W.Va., to the late Mildred Lora Shay and Truman Weaver Ashby.
Mary graduated from high school in East Chicago.
While raising her three sons alongside her husband, Henry K. Samples, she also worked at their local tax collector’s office.
In her spare time, Mary enjoyed camping with her sisters and all of the children when they were young. She was a talented quilt maker and was very involved with her church family. She also loved flowers and tending to her gardens.
Mary Evelyn was preceded in death by her spouse, Henry K. Samples; sisters, Dorothy Cunningham, Mickey Selah and Martha Lou Reinhart.
She is survived by sons, Lee Samples and James Samples; her daughter-in-law, Laura Samples; grandchildren, Holly, Lora, Rob, Kyle and Will Samples; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great- grandchildren; and extended family members and friends to cherish her memory.
The family will receive guests for a visitation between the hours of 12 and 2 p.m., the time of a funeral service, Friday, March 17, in H.M. Patterson Canton Hill.
