George Ellwood Bird, 70, of Marianna, died Tuesday, March 28 2023, in UPMC Presbyterian.
He was born in Washington on March 4, 1953, son of the late Franklin and Martha Kathleen Phillips Bird. He was a graduate of Victory High School in Clarksburg, W.Va. He also was a graduate of Shiloh Bible Institute in Washington.
He had various careers throughout his lifetime, working on a sound crew, most notoriously Kenny Rogers and Sawyer Brown, drove truck, was an EMT on an ambulance, worked in various hospitals, performed mobile EKG’s, and most recently cleaned for a local cleaning company.
He enjoyed local history, especially archaeological, and fishing.
On December 7, 1978 he married Melodye Winston Bird with whom he shared 32 years of marriage before her passing on October 19, 2010.
He is survived by two sisters, Nancy and husband, George Donahoo and Pamela and late husband, Lacy Mills; brother-in law, John Ivan and wife, Sharon Winston; sister-in-law, Connie Posey; seven nieces and nephews: Albert (Nancy) Donahoo, Susan (Butch) Moore, Floyd (Colleen) Donahoo, David (Karla) Donahoo, Melissa Winston, Heather Winston and John Jr. Winston; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, is an infant brother.
Family and friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m., the time of funeral services, on Sunday April 2, 2023, in Highland Brethren Church, 450 Hihgland Ridge Road, Marianna, PA 15345, with Reverend Gary Irey officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Brethren Church Cemetery.
