Mary Candida Scandale
Mary Candida Scandale, 84, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in the Greenery, with her beloved family by her side. She was born October 16, 1938, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Armando and Filomena Colaizzo DiSibio.
Mary was raised in Canonsburg, where she graduated from Canonsburg High School Class of 1956. She was a faithful member of St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church, where she taught CCD classes for 25 years, and a member of the Christian Mothers & Guild.
Mrs. Scandale was a hairdresser by trade and a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed baking and canning from her Italian heritage and watching her grandchildren when they were little.
On June 17, 1961, she married Frank “Wishbone” Scandale, who passed away October 24, 2017, after 55 years of marriage.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her devoted daughters, Rosa M. (John) Quatman, and Lucia F. (David) Stopenski, both of Canonsburg; granddaughters, Nadia (Corey) Nicholson, Carina Stopenski and Maria Stopenski; her great- grandson, Malcolm Nicholson; two nieces, Phyllis Scandale and Susan McKelvey; and many great-nieces and nephews. Mary was the last of her immediate family.
Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, is her brother, Orlando DiSibio.
Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120, where departing prayers will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 19. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Oscar Romero Parish St. Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Peters Township.
