Sheron Diane Gatling-Godfrey
Sheron Diane Gatling- Godfrey, 71, of Washington, peacefully passed away, in her home, Friday, November 3, 2023. Mrs. Godfrey was born May 7, 1952, in Bluefield W.Va., a daughter of the late Edward P. and Elizabeth R. Avery.
Mrs. Godfrey was a 1972 graduate of Trinity High School.
She retired in 2019 as the operations manager of EVS for UPMC Montefiore and Presbyterian hospitals in Pittsburgh.
Mrs. Godfrey enjoyed crafting, quilting, finding four leaf clovers and spending time with her granddaughter, Brooklynn.
Mrs. Godfrey was a devout member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, where she held the positions of Sunday school teacher, head of worship committees and Head of trustees committees.
Surviving are her husband, Gregory Godfrey of Homestead; son, Robert “Robby” L. Gatling III of Washington; daughter, Christine “Crissy” M. Gatling and granddaughter, Brooklynn M. Gatling, both of Washington; brothers, Larry (Sharon) Avery of Washington, Charles (Lesa) Avery of Washington, Gregory (Niki Stewart) Avery of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her brother, Albert “Bucky” Clemons; and sisters, Carolyn “Tynie” Smith, Barbara “Jean” Franell, and Briget E. Avery.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of a memorial service, Friday, November 10, in John Wesley United Methodist Church, 35 Central Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Jerome Kennedy and Pastor Debra Mason officiating.
