Joseph Wylie Holmes, Sr.
Joseph Wylie Holmes, Sr., 79, of Washington, died Monday, October 23, 2023, in his home.
He was born July, 16, 1944, in Washington, a son of the late Russell and Ruth Perrino Holmes.
Joseph enjoyed playing poker and loved spending time with his dogs.
He was a United States Army veteran and was a member of both the VFW post #927 and the Edwin Scott Linton Post #175 of the American Legion.
On November 10, 1965, he married Mary Jane Dille, who died May 31, 2012.
Surviving are four sons, Joseph W. (Holly) Holmes, Jr. of Canonsburg, Edward B. Holmes of Washington, William L. Holmes of Washington and Darryl S. Holmes of Washington; a brother, David Holmes; five grandchildren: Samantha, Hope, Joshua, Jensen and Taylor Holmes; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, John Holmes; and a sister, Dorothy Ann Holmes, who died in infancy.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the hour of service, Thursday, October 26, 2023, in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M, Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
