Joseph Bernard Dyga
Joseph Bernard Dyga, 84, of Nottingham Township, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 1, 2023 at St. Clair Hospital after a brief illness.
Joe was born October 10, 1938, In Nottingham Township, a son of the late Stanley B. Dyga and Anna M. Zukauckas Dyga.
Joe was a graduate of Peters Township High School, Class of 1956.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1962 – 1963.
Joe was employed as a Sheet Metal worker at Chapman Corporation, retiring in 1997 after 45 years and was a lifetime member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association , Local No. 12.
He lived in Finleyville for many years before moving to Nottingham Township in 1986.
He was a member of the Finleyville Hackett Club and Moose Lodge.
Joe was a street rod enthusiast, building several cars in his garage. When he was younger, he was a professional drag racer, racing locally and as far away as California.
Joe was such a talented craftsman and could make and fix anything. He was an avid hunter of Pennsylvania wildlife and took much pleasure from mowing his grass and gardening.
His two dogs, Travis and Randy, were his constant companions over many years, and he loved them dearly. Joe also raised longhorn cattle and Holsteins on his 24 acres.
Joe was a friend to everyone and was a legend at work and among those who knew and loved him.
Joe is survived by his beloved Laurie Mansell Reich and her husband Henry; his sister, Dorothy Stueber (Eric) of Hurricane, W.Va.; his nieces, Yvette Stueber of Owings Mills, Md., and Ri’anna Graham of Bristol, England, and other nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Josephine Bernadette Putkovich.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Kegel funeral Home, Inc., David P. Kegel, Supervisor, 3560 Washington Ave, Finleyville, where services will begin 11 a.m. Wednesday with interment following in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
