Christine A. Churches

Christine A. Churches, 75, of Washington, died Monday, September 11, 2023, in her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born September 8, 1948, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Harry and Margaret Yarmock Calmus.

Christine was a 1966 graduate of Keystone Oaks High School and went on to obtain her Associate’s degree from Community College of Allegheny County.

She was employed by the fingerprinting department of the FBI, and then went on to work in credit and collections at H.J. Heinz Co., and finally she was office manager for her husband’s engineering firm, Churches Engineering.

She was a member of St. James Parish, and celebrated mass at the Immaculate Conception worship site. She was a devoted equestrienne.

On August 29, 1970, in Pittsburgh, she married Charles Churches, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Charles (Nicole) Churches, Jr. of Canonsburg; a daughter, Courtney (Matthew) Petersen of Cranberry; a brother, Ed (Jodi) Calmus of Denver Colo.; five grandchildren: Brayden and Madelyn Churches, and Noah, Chloe and Hunter Petersen; three step-grandchildren, Loren-Jonelle, Morgan-Victoria and Ava-Grace; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from noon to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2023, in Immaculate Conception Church of St. James Parish, Washington, with Reverend Michael Peck as celebrant. Interment will follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, McMurray.
