Herbert E. “Herb” Dewar, 88, of Houston, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023, in Canonsburg Hospital, surrounded by many of his loving family.

Herb was born in Glassport, a son of James and Anna Dewar.

Herb was a loving and caring individual who always put others before himself. Family was the most important aspect of his life, and he found great joy in spending time with his brothers, nieces, nephews and cousins. Herb had a special connection with dogs and was often referred to as the “Dog Whisperer.” His furry friends will also miss him dearly.

Known for his friendly and approachable nature, Herb enjoyed engaging in conversations with anyone and everyone. He was a familiar face at many of his favorite, local eateries. Herb’s warm and gentle demeanor endeared him to all who knew him.

Herb proudly served in the United States Army, and his dedication to his country was admirable.

After his military service, and until his retirement, Herb was a superintendent for Pennsylvania American Water. He was a natural leader, hardworking, fair, creative, and soon became one of their most respected superintendents, and is still considered that, today.

Herb was a man ahead of his time, an entrepreneur, as he engaged in developing other small businesses with his brother, Harry, as well as creating his own business of rental properties.

Herb worshiped and supported the Meadow Lands United Methodist Church, where he found spiritual solace and community.

In addition to his military and professional accomplishments, Herb enjoyed tinkering with home projects in his garage, tending to household chores, and making chicken soup.

Deceased is Herb’s beloved wife, Anna F. Marinkovich, whom he married April 29, 1972, and who passed away January 24, 2022. Also deceased are five brothers and a sister.

Herb is survived by his brother, Harry Dewar, of Finleyville.

A memorial service, in honor and celebration of Herb’s life, will be held Friday, September 29, in Meadow Lands United Methodist Church, 535 Pike Street, Meadow Lands, PA 15347, with Pastor Melody Kimmel officiating. Family visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at 1 p.m. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Meadow Lands United Methodist Church, at the above address.

Herb’s warm presence and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
