In today’s age, technology has become a part of our everyday lives. While it certainly has its uses, people are becoming too dependent on it.

The Internet can be a useful tool; however, it can also be addictive. People cannot go a day without checking their Facebook or Twitter. The average person spends about six to nine hours on the Web. With so much time spent in cyberspace, people are losing sight of reality.

The overuse of cellphones has spawned several new issues. For instance, teens today are shown to have more grammar problems than they did before cellphones were invented. With text messaging phrases such as “wats up,” “l8ter” and the constant uses of acronyms like “BTW” and “LOL,” is it really so surprising? Some people have even been known to suffer from cellphone separation anxiety! It is ironic how inventions created to help us communicate better are, in fact, causing a decline in social skills.

People need to wake up and live their lives beyond the screens, buttons and gadgets. There are certain moments in life technology cannot replicate.
