A tragedy is waiting to happen in the crosswalks around the campus of Washington & Jefferson College. They are very poorly lit and, at night, especially those dark, rainy nights we have this time of year, students crossing the streets in dark clothing are virtually impossible to see.

The little signs indicating pedestrians having the right of way are of little or no help when approaching these areas. The wearing of dark clothing, decreased visibility and the apparent failure of pedestrians to even look for traffic even in the best of conditions presents a hazard for both drivers and pedestrians.

It would be nice to see the college show some concern for the safety of its students and visitors and light the crosswalks brightly to remove this hazard.
