The relationship between the city of Washington and Washington & Jefferson College is well over 200 years old and at times has been cool, if not contentious. Lately, however, that relationship has warmed, and a new spirit of cooperation is evident, due in part to the tragic slaying of a W&J student recently on a city street. The latest example involves the football playoff game originally scheduled for Wash High Stadium tonight. Because of the heavy rain this week, the WPIAL insisted that all games on natural fields be moved to stadiums with artificial surfaces. That could have meant that Wash High’s home game would be moved far away. But W&J’s offer of the use of Cameron Stadium has kept the game in town.Washington area residents could show their support and appreciation by attending the game and rooting not just for the Wash High Prexies but also the city, the college and their long and rich history together.
