This is in response to the Dec. 30 letter from Linda Wachtler, “Use the road salt.”

My husband is the maintenance supervisor for Houston Borough, and up until this letter they have only received praise for their winter roadwork.

I do understand how important dialysis is, and I am sorry that Wachtler had such a hard time getting to her appointment. But the blame does not fall on Houston Borough. My husband and his partner were out during the wee hours of the morning Dec. 26 treating the roads. Moninger Heights hill is not in Houston Borough, it is in Chartiers Township, which means they would have been responsible for that area.

As for the main road from Houston to the Dialysis Center, it is PennDOT’s territory.

Houston prides itself on the wonderful efforts put forth by their road crew, and letters like Wachtler’s are just unfair. Houston has a two-man road crew and they do exceptional work for their areas.
