The third annual Whiskey Rebellion Festival will be held in Washington July 11 through 13, but the event’s first activity actually begins tonight. The festival’s Heritage Music Series opens in the George Washington Hotel’s Pioneer Club at 7:30 p.m. with an open mic acoustic set, followed by the Weedrags, who have played at the festival the past two summers.

The series will continue the fourth Friday of each month leading up to the festival.

The venue could not be more appropriate. The former Pioneer Grill is adorned with murals painted by Malcolm Parcell depicting the Whiskey Rebellion and early settlement of this area. The hotel will host a number of events during the summer festival, as well, with expanded activities being planned for the LeMoyne and Bradford houses and main tents of South Main Street.

Our local history is rich and something to cherish, but having music performed live downtown on a regular basis is something to celebrate, too.
