I recently read the May 24 letter to the editor by Greg Simmons concerning the recent election in Cecil Township and the newer neighborhoods. First of all, I have lived in this township all my life and have seen all the changes, and it is not the new people, it is the uncontrolled growth that is going to cause us all problems, in the young neighborhoods as well as the old neighborhoods. They moved here for lower taxes and the rural atmosphere. How long do you think they will last?

The children of young families now only get a one-way ride to kindergarten, either to school or from school. This presents a real burden on working parents. The classrooms are so overcrowded that they can only support half-day kindergarten. As a mother of five children, I thought Cindy Fisher’s platform would have mentioned this problem. All her pamphlets, letters and postcards never mentioned this issue, which should be a very big concern for the young families and the old families alike with grandchildren.

Fisher talked about a comprehensive road program she planned to established. If people attended more of the meetings, they would have known that this has already been implemented by the supervisors. Frank Egizio saved the township $50,000 by advising the supervisors to put the bids in early. Take a look at the past township minutes. Paving has already started on some roads.

Cindy Fisher, in all her mailings and Internet site, says she is for safe, responsible drilling. All the residents of Cecil Township want safe, responsible drilling, even those in the old neighborhoods. Saying these words is one thing, but meaning them is another. She still is an active member of a site called Cecil Cares which has many anti-drilling people commenting on it. Fisher is also against behind closed-door meetings when it comes to drilling and Range Resources. But I didn’t hear one word about the closed-door meetings that concerned the resignation of the chief of police.

We had some nasty things happen in this election, which I don’t condone. Signs were destroyed, phone messages were left and letters were sent to a candidate’s employer. Egizio did not make these incidents one of his talking points in the campaign. Egizio just chose to worry about the issues at hand concerning our township.

As an older member of our community, I want to congratulate Ms. Fisher on her election and offer just a little advice: Please treat all residents of Cecil Township, young and old, with a lot of respect. I was always told you have to give respect to get respect, even in Mayberry.
